2nd Annual Mike Sullivan Memorial Golf Tournament - 2006

Once again, we'd like to thank everyone for their participation and support of the 2nd Annual Mike Sullivan Golf Tournament, sponsored by RFID Journal and the Boston Scholars Program, and hosted at the beautiful Silverstone Golf Club in Las Vegas.  This Tournament gives the chance for those in the RFID industry to network and connect over a day of golf, while also providing scholarship and mentoring to talented, yet under-served, youth in the Boston area. This year, we were blessed with an unbelievable weather day, good golf by some, fun for all, strong support from our sponsors and many volunteers, and most importantly, a fundraising effort that raised over $55,000!  This year’s event was made possible through a partnership with RFID Journal Live! 2006 Conference, enabling us to reach a broader audience and also committing to sponsoring next year’s event in Orlando, FL. Once again, we’d like to thank all of our generous sponsors for their time and financial contributions:

The hard work of the volunteers and the support of sponsors is a testament to Mike and the effect he had on the lives of all he knew. Now, through the Scholarship Fund, Mike will continue to positively influence the lives of numerous underprivileged youth in the Boston area. We are happy to announce that the first Mike Sullivan Boston Scholar was named in the fall of 2006: Daniel.

Daniel started his freshmen year this fall at Boston College High School. Although he is very much busy during the day with school and soccer practices he still finds the time to get involved with his community. As a Young Hero of the City Year organization he helps young professionals fix and build computers for individuals who can’t afford to buy one on their own. When asked what he plans on being when he grows up Daniel says, “I don’t know yet. Right now my goals are to get really good grades and get into a really good college.”

However, we have not yet reached our long-term fundraising goal to create a lasting endowment by which there will be a Mike Sullivan Boston Scholar each year in perpetuity.  Combined with last year’s event, our scholarship fund has grown to over $75,000, bringing us closer to our goal.
