Volunteer with Boston Scholars Program

Our Boston volunteer mentors provide the vital link between the Boston Scholars Program and the students who receive our scholarships and educational services. As a volunteer mentor in Boston, by engaging one of our students and helping them make the most of the educational opportunity provided to them, you can make an amazing impact on a scholar's life.

Time Committment: We ask that you meet with your scholar usually twice a month for about 2 hours each time.

Role of Mentor: You serving as an educational advocate, which means starting as a friend to gain trust and then helping to coach your scholar towards maximizing their educational and leadership achievements.

Boston Scholars Events: One of your monthly meetings can be our group events that we host about once every two months. In the past we have gone to hockey or baseball games, gone bowling, seen a theatrical performance, or done volunteer work at a shelter.

Qualifications: We ask that mentors must be college graduates or and either employed or in graduate school. All Boston Scholars volunteer mentors must pass through a screening process including an interview and background check.

Length of Commitment: Mentor candidates have to be willing to commit to a year of service. We hope to see the relatioships last beyond a year, but the only committment we ask you to make is for 12 months.

Our mentoring program is provided through a partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay (click here to see press release) and all of our volunteers, enabling our program to reach many more students in a cost effective manner, and helping our mentors receive top notch training and support.
