Lamour , Program Manager
Laurine Lamour joined the Boston Scholars Program as our second hire in
June 2006. As the Program Manager, she focuses developing the Program
and managing the Boston Scholars experience for our Scholars, Mentors,
and families.
Laurine
joins us after exploring a career in law at firms such as Sullivan and
Worcester LLP and Wilmer Cutlering Hale and Dorr LLP and at the Boston
Bar Association. In college, Laurine's passion for justice and equal
opportunity for all drove her to become a member of the Boston Lawyers
Group, which works with its member organizations to identify, recruit,
advance and retain attorneys of color.
Laurine
was born in Miami, Florida but was raised in Boston. A student at East
Boston High School, Laurine was involved with several leadership and
education programs in the Boston community such as Bottom Line, Project
Listen, National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE), Haitian
Teens Confront AIDs (HTCA), and Junior Achievement. With the skills
she obtained from NFTE, Laurine developed and ran her own cheesecake
business where her profits exceeded $2500 per month. She was presented
with a New England Entrepreneur award in 2001by Mayor Menino and former
President Jimmy Carter. Later that year, she was flown to New York City
where she received an award for her business plan. Laurine graduated
from East Boston High School in 2001 and was awarded a full-tuition
Posse Scholarship to Hamilton College.
At Hamilton,
Laurine majored in English: Creative Writing and minored in Economics.
She was the Culture Chair for the Black Student Union for two years,
developing their annual events to help to enrich the Hamilton community.
She was also a dedicated member of La Vanguardia, an organization to
help promote Latin culture, and the Study Buddy program, tutoring and
mentoring high school students from Utica, NY.
In her
spare time, Laurine likes to write and perform her poetry, bake unique
cheesecakes, practice Tae Kwon Do, and play volleyball.
