Click on the names below to see a profile of each of the 2008 Boston Scholars.

Aviana
-- "Thank you so much for sending me to school and changing my life."

One of the more outgoing members of the Class of 2008, Aviana is excited about being a Boston Scholar "because I get to have new experiences and meet new people. Avi has high educational and career goals for herself. She wants to "become a marine biologist", and get her college degree from a top notch institution such as "MIT or Harvard." In her free time outside of school, Avi likes "to dance, do double-dutch and play basketball" - she is continuing basketball with her high school team at the Newman School. Avi lives in Roslindale with her mother and a younger sister she cares for occasionally.

Gaelle
-- "Thank you... because Boston Scholars is a good experience."

Return to top of page

Gaelle is often the ringleader of activity among her friends in the Boston Scholars Class of 2008, probably gaining much of her outgoing personality from her home life, where she lives in Roslindale with a large crowd of her extended family all originally from Haiti, including her mother and brother, as well as an aunt and two cousins. Gaelle would like to be a pediatrician someday. She is interested in "researching Boston College and Boston University" as well as schools outside the city she isn't familiar with yet. Gaelle is quite active in sports, playing lacrosse, basketball and soccer, all of which she will continue at Trinity Catholic thanks to her Boston Scholars Award.

Tristan
-- "Thanks for helping me financially and socially. I am excited about the Boston Scholars Program because I have already seen the benefits; the tuition of course and my mentor is great."

Return to top of page

Tristan is unique among the Boston Scholars as he would like to be an architect some day after getting his college degree at a school near his family, possibly Boston College or Harvard. His favorite activity is tennis, but he is also and avid baseball player and he hope to continue playing both sports in high school. Tristan resides in Dorchester with his parents and sister and is attending BC High.

Monique
-- "Your support won't be put to waste - I will use it wisely."

Return to top of page

Monique has enjoyed her Boston Scholars experience because she has been able to "meet new people and broaden my horizons and knowledge." She isn't sure yet where she would like to go to college, but she thinks she would like to work in "adolescent medicine" because she likes helping care for her younger sisters - Monique lives in Dorchester with her Mom, a brother and two sisters. At Loomis Chaffe she will continue playing her favorite sport, basketball, and try to make time for the other hobbies she enjoys, including hip-hop dancing, skating, reading and watching movies.

Johnny

Joanne
-- "I am extremely grateful for the assistance - Thank You!"

Return to top of page

Joanne has set high expectations for herself - she would like to graduate from Harvard Medical School and become a doctor. Living with her mom, who is originally from Cape Verde, in Roxbury, Joanne is one of the quieter young women in the Boston Scholars Class of 2008. Though a little bit shy with her friends, Joanne doesn't avoid competition in the sporting arena as she enjoys basketball, lacrosse, softball and field hockey. At Newton Country Day she plans on playing her favorite sport, basketball, and maybe some other sports as well.

Faatimah
--
"I appreciate it very much - it is good to have the support of Boston Scholars."

Return to top of page

Faatimah may be the Boston Scholar most likely to have a smile on her face. She is excited about starting at Woodward School for high school, made possible by her Boston Scholars Award, since "it is a new beginning and I can start off fresh." Faatimah will play her favorite sport, soccer, in school and also keep up with dancing, one of her hobbies. While she isn't completely sure about her career plans, Faatimah is set on going to college and attending "any good one" and possibly continuing into law or medical school. Faatimah lives with her mother, brother and sister in Dorchester.
